Assam Tightens Crackdown on Illegal Immigration; 21 Alleged Infiltrators Detected, Says Himanta
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the state government remains uncompromising in its fight against illegal immigration, announcing that 21 alleged illegal infiltrators have been identified and action has been initiated against them by the Assam Police. Sharing the development on X, Sarma praised the police force for its swift response and wrote, “Not everyone is a Dhurandhar, especially in Assam! Twenty-one illegal infiltrators tested their mettle to survive illegally in Assam but were promptly identified by the OGs in the game Assam Police and appropriate action was initiated to neutralise the threat they posed.” His remarks highlighted the government’s continued emphasis on strengthening border security and preventing unlawful entry into the state.
The announcement came just hours after the Chief Minister revealed that 18 foreign nationals were stopped from entering India as part of intensified surveillance along Assam’s international border. Although Sarma did not disclose the exact location where the individuals were intercepted or reveal their nationalities, he reiterated that the state’s security agencies remain on round-the-clock alert to detect and prevent illegal infiltration. In another post, he said Assam’s vigilance would continue 24×7, with strict monitoring and immediate enforcement against anyone attempting to enter or stay in the state illegally.
The latest operation is part of Assam’s broader campaign to curb illegal immigration, an issue that has remained a key political and administrative priority for the state government. Sarma maintained that protecting Assam’s security, demographic balance, and cultural identity remains a top priority, adding that law enforcement agencies have been instructed to maintain constant surveillance and take prompt action whenever any suspected illegal infiltrator is detected. The government’s latest announcement underscores its commitment to strengthening border management and ensuring strict implementation of immigration laws.
