Sivasagar, Assam : He may have dropped out of school after Class 10, but when one of Assam’s worst floods left thousands of people trapped and helpless, Shravan proved that courage, presence of mind and humanity can matter more than academic qualifications. With no formal rescue training, no motorboat, no life jacket and no modern rescue equipment, this young man reportedly took his old wooden boat into the dangerous floodwaters and helped rescue nearly 2,000 people, earning widespread praise as Assam’s real-life hero.

As floodwaters swept through parts of Sivasagar district, homes were submerged and many residents were left stranded on rooftops, trees and other elevated places.
