Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi received a grand ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday, marking her maiden official visit to India and setting the stage for the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Takaichi at the forecourt of the presidential complex as marching contingents of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, accompanied by a military band, accorded her full ceremonial honours.
Following the reception, the two leaders met External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and senior Union ministers before heading to Hyderabad House for high-level bilateral talks. The discussions are expected to focus on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, defence, technology, and regional security.
Arriving in New Delhi on Wednesday, Takaichi shared glimpses of her visit on X, which PM Modi reposted while reaffirming India’s commitment to strengthening the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership. He underscored the shared vision of both nations to promote peace, stability, and prosperity across the Indo-Pacific.
The Ministry of External Affairs described the visit as a significant milestone, with the summit set to review the entire spectrum of bilateral ties and address key regional and global challenges, further deepening one of Asia’s most trusted strategic partnerships.
