New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a six-day diplomatic tour of Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand from July 6 to 11, as India steps up its engagement with key partners in the Indo-Pacific region. The visit is expected to strengthen cooperation in areas such as trade, defence, maritime security, technology and people-to-people ties.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Prime Minister will begin his tour in Indonesia on July 6 before travelling to Australia and concluding his visit in New Zealand on July 11. During the trip, Modi will hold bilateral meetings with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon.

MEA Secretary (East) Rudrendra Tandon said the visit reflects India’s continued focus on the eastern maritime region under its Act East policy, following the Prime Minister’s recent engagements with Mauritius, Seychelles and Japan.

The Prime Minister is also expected to interact with members of the Indian diaspora in all three countries. Indonesia is home to around 1.4 lakh people of Indian origin and NRIs, while Australia has nearly 9.7 lakh and New Zealand around 3 lakh.

In Australia, Modi will attend the third India-Australia Annual Summit in Melbourne. He is also scheduled to meet leaders of major Australian companies and visit the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Discussions with Prime Minister Albanese are expected to focus on expanding cooperation in defence, critical minerals, cybersecurity, resilient supply chains and emerging technologies. As members of the Quad, India and Australia continue to work closely for a free, open and rules-based Indo-Pacific.

During his Indonesia visit, the Prime Minister will travel to Jakarta and also visit the UNESCO-listed Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta. India and Indonesia are set to collaborate on the conservation of the historic temple, further strengthening cultural ties between the two nations.

The final leg of the tour will take Modi to New Zealand, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in four decades. The visit follows the signing of a free trade agreement between the two countries earlier this year. Talks with Prime Minister Christopher Luxon will focus on boosting cooperation in trade, investment, education, maritime security, technology, tourism, sports and regional issues.

The three-nation tour is expected to reinforce India’s strategic partnerships across the Indo-Pacific while expanding economic cooperation and deepening cultural and people-to-people connections.
