Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh : An unusual protest at the Khandwa Collectorate has grabbed attention after a man arrived at a public grievance hearing dressed as a dog to highlight the city’s stray dog problem.
The man, who reportedly came from Delhi, appeared in a dog costume alongside Khandwa Municipal Corporation Leader of Opposition Deepak Rathore. His unusual appearance drew the attention of officials, visitors and onlookers, many of whom captured the scene on their phones.
The protest focused on concerns over the increasing presence of stray dogs in residential areas and on city roads, with pedestrians and children among those reportedly facing difficulties.
Rathore also levelled allegations of irregularities in the municipal corporation’s dog sterilisation programme. He claimed that a bill worth ₹40 lakh had been issued in connection with dog sterilisation and demanded scrutiny of the alleged irregularities.
Calling the costumed protester their “Doggy brother”, Rathore said the demonstration was intended to bring public attention to the issue and the allegations raised against the civic body.
The unusual protest soon became a talking point online, with social media users describing it as a creative and hard-to-ignore way of highlighting a civic issue. Some users praised the demonstration, while others reacted humorously to the sight of a man dressed as a dog at the Collectorate.
The allegations raised during the hearing remain claims made by the protesters and would require verification from the concerned authorities.
