Jammu Kashmir : The Vande Bharat train has for the first time travelled at nearly 100 kmph across the Chenab Railway Bridge the world’s highest railway bridge following the Railway Ministry’s approval to raise the maximum permissible speed on the Katra Banihal rail route.
The revised speed limit permits trains to operate at up to 100 kmph along the 111-kilometre newly constructed Broad Gauge section connecting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra with Banihal under the Jammu Division of Northern Railway.
Previously trains were allowed to run at a maximum speed of 85 kmph between Katra and Sangaldan, while the permitted speed on the Sangaldan-Banihal stretch was 75 kmph.
Northern Railway said the speed enhancement was approved after all required safety conditions and prescribed standards had been complied with.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Jammu Uchit Singhal, said the increase in permissible speed would help cut travel time and further improve rail connectivity between Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the development would offer passengers quicker, safer and more comfortable journeys while also giving a boost to tourism, trade and other economic activities in the region.
With the revised speed limit now in effect, the journey between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Banihal is expected to become shorter, further improving the efficiency of rail services along the strategically important route.
