Pune : Amid the outrage over a viral video showing murder accused Siya Goyal apparently making an obscene gesture towards the media, her father, Praveen Goyal, has issued a clarification, claiming the incident has been widely misunderstood.
In a self-recorded video, Praveen Goyal said Siya did not intentionally show her middle finger. According to him, while she was brought home by the police to complete legal formalities, two of her fingers were accidentally caught in a car door, leaving one bandaged and the other swollen with blue nails.
He urged people not to jump to conclusions based on the viral clip, adding that the police officers accompanying Siya witnessed the incident and could verify his account. To support his claim, he also displayed a photograph of her injured finger.
The clarification comes after the video sparked widespread criticism online, with many calling Siya’s alleged gesture insensitive given the serious allegations against her.
Siya Goyal and co-accused Chetan Chaudhary have been arrested for the alleged murder of businessman Ketan Agarwal, who was allegedly pushed into a gorge near Lohagad Fort in Pune on June 18.
Police claim the two conspired to kill Agarwal after initially attempting to pass off his death as an accident.
