Pulwama, J & K : Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLA from Pulwama Waheed-ur-Rehman Para has criticised the BJP over what he described as “hate politics” and called for greater political unity and dialogue to address issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to reporters, Para, while responding to a question about Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma, alleged that the BJP has promoted politics based on religious and communal divisions. He said the political discourse should instead focus on development, employment, education and public welfare.
On Kashmir’s political issues, Para urged the National Conference-led government and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to take lessons from the leadership in Ladakh, saying its leaders had collectively raised their concerns before the Union Government.
He questioned why similar dialogue has not taken place with Kashmir’s political leadership and called for a structured engagement with stakeholders from the region to address public concerns.
Para also sought the immediate implementation of crop insurance for apple and cherry growers in Jammu and Kashmir. He said erratic weather, unseasonal rainfall and hailstorms have caused losses to orchards and affected the livelihoods of fruit growers.
He urged the government to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the damage and provide timely relief, while putting in place an effective insurance mechanism to protect farmers against recurring weather-related losses.
