Srinagar, J & K : The annual Amarnath Yatra which commenced on July 3 in Jammu and Kashmir, has entered its final phase with the traditional procession of the Holy Mace or Chhari Mubarak beginning its journey towards the revered Amarnath Cave shrine.
The holy mace departed from Dashnami Akhara in Srinagar following traditional prayers and rituals. Led by its custodian, Mahant Deependra Giri the procession proceeded towards Pahalgam, where devotees and sadhus participated in religious ceremonies along the route.
After reaching Pahalgam, the Chhari Mubarak will follow the customary pilgrimage route through Chandanwari, Sheshnag and Panchtarni before reaching the holy cave on August 28, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan.
According to the announced schedule, the sacred mace will stay at Chandanwari on August 24, Sheshnag on August 25 and Panchtarni on August 26 and 27. It will then be taken to the Amarnath cave on the morning of August 28 for the concluding rituals and prayers.
The procession is being led as per established traditions associated with the annual pilgrimage.
The Holy Mace is scheduled to reach the Amarnath Cave on Raksha Bandhan where special prayers and concluding religious ceremonies will be performed.
The annual pilgrimage has drawn devotees from different parts of the country to the Himalayan shrine, with the final rituals at the cave set to bring this year’s yatra to a close.
