From Muscat to Dubai, Colombo to Qatar : Love Takes the Long Route Home

NewDelhi: When borders tightened between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor, countless cross-border relationships were suddenly caught in uncertainty. Wedding plans were disrupted, families were left waiting and the possibility of couples beginning their lives together seemed increasingly distant.

But for love, distance proved to be just another obstacle to overcome.

At least 150 Pakistani brides have reportedly travelled through alternative transit routes, including Muscat, Colombo, Dhaka, Dubai and Qatar*, to reach India and reunite with their partners. Instead of crossing directly through the closed or restricted routes, they took longer journeys through third countries to keep their wedding plans alive.

When Borders Closed, Love Found Another Route

The journeys brought the brides to several Indian cities, including Nagpur, Jodhpur, Ahmedabad, Raipur, Pune and Bhopal. For many couples, their arrival marked more than just a wedding it represented the fulfilment of promises made long before political tensions disrupted travel between the two countries.

The traditional symbolism of sindoor, representing marriage and a new beginning, became an emotional reminder of how personal relationships can continue even when geopolitical tensions create barriers.

Thousands of Miles for One New Beginning

Travelling through multiple international airports meant longer journeys, additional expenses and complicated travel arrangements. Yet the brides and their families remained determined to reach India and be with their loved ones.

Their stories highlight the human side of cross-border relationships where wedding invitations, family celebrations and dreams of a shared future can become entangled with visas, border restrictions and international tensions.

Love Beyond Borders

While political relations may determine borders and travel rules, these couples are finding ways to protect their personal bonds. Their journeys have turned into stories of patience, determination and hope, showing that for some, the desire to build a life together can overcome even extraordinary logistical challenges.

For these 150 brides, the journey was not simply from one country to another. It was a journey toward a long-awaited new chapter, a new home and a new life together.
