Ahmedabad, Gujarat : Home Minister Amit Shah will meet students for the first time on Thursday after Gen Z’s protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar over NEET paper leak. During his one-day visit to Gujarat, he will be the chief guest at the convocation ceremony of Gujarat Vidyapith in Ahmedabad. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi targeted Home Minister Amit Shah after Gen Z’s protest.
Shah himself will distribute degrees to the students, so his address on the occasion is highly anticipated. It is expected that Shah may speak on the occasion. It is worth noting that Gujarat Vidyapith was established by the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on October 18, 1920. He took this step during the Non-Cooperation Movement to create a national educational institution as an alternative to the British education system.
Gujarat Vidyapith was granted Deemed University status in 1963. The current Chancellor of Gujarat Vidyapith is Acharya Devvrat, the Governor of Gujarat, and was the founder and life-time Vice-Chancellor of the Mahatma Gandhi Sanstha. Gandhinagar MP Amit Shah will attend a total of five programmes during his one-day visit.
The programme assumes significance amid the growing debate about the youth movement and Gen Z in the country. According to an official statement, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will join the youth on the campus on August 27. He will interact with the students at the 72nd convocation of Gujarat Vidyapith. Shah has previously served as the chief guest at the convocations of several Gujarat universities.
In this convocation of Gujarat Vidyapith, 900 students from 18 departments of seven faculties will be awarded degrees. This includes 184 graduates, 400 postgraduates, 232 post-graduates, 21 postgraduate diploma holders and 63 MPhil/PhD degree holders.
Out of these, 441 are female students and 459 are male students. Eleven students will be honoured with the “Chancellor Temple Medal” of the faculty and the “Flag Medal” of the department and the chief guest Amit Shah will present them with certificates. Amit Shah will also hold a public darbar in Ghatlodia, the constituency of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
