Chinese President Xi Jinping to Arrive in Delhi This Afternoon
New Delhi : Today is a highly significant day for India in terms of global diplomacy. The two-day 18th BRICS Summit is set to formally commence today at the magnificent Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi’s Pragati Maidan. President Putin has already arrived in New Delhi a day in advance.
Meanwhile, one of the summit’s key highlights, Chinese President Xi Jinping, will arrive at Delhi’s Palam Air Force Station this afternoon on a special aircraft. This marks the Chinese President’s first visit to India since 2019 and is considered crucial for thawing the icy relations between the two nations.
Ahead of the scheduled meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in New Delhi, Beijing has clearly articulated its stance on bilateral relations.
China has stated that both nations should resolve their differences and advance their relationship from a strategic and long-term perspective. Xi is set to arrive in India on Saturday after a gap of seven years.
In addition to participating in the BRICS Summit, he will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning noted that the two leaders are meeting for the third consecutive year.
They had previously met in Kazan and Tianjin. She stated that China wishes to work with India to implement the strategic directives of both leaders, enhance dialogue, strengthen cooperation, and properly resolve differences.
Beijing also emphasized the need for both countries to move forward as good neighbors and partners in each other’s success. Before Xi Jinping’s departure for India, China’s state-run news agency Xinhua also emphasized boosting cooperation within the Global South through BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Citing Xinhua, Agency reported that both organizations have emerged as vital platforms for cooperation among developing nations.
