Delhi-NCR Braces for a Stormy Weekend
New Delhi: Delhi-NCR is likely to witness a significant change in weather conditions this weekend, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and strong gusty winds across the national capital and neighbouring areas. According to the weather forecast, Saturday and Sunday could bring light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, while wind speeds may touch 40–50 kmph during intense weather activity. The weather system is expected to keep the skies cloudy and bring relief from the prevailing warmth, with the maximum temperature in Delhi likely to remain around 33°C on Saturday and fall to nearly 31°C on Sunday.
Several parts of the capital have already recorded cooler-than-normal morning temperatures, with Safdarjung recording a minimum of 23.2°C, around 0.7°C below normal. Palam recorded 20.5°C, Lodhi Road 22.8°C, Ridge 18.8°C and Ayanagar 22.8°C, with temperatures at Ridge and Palam significantly below their respective normal levels. The IMD has forecast rain and thunderstorms from the morning to afternoon hours on Saturday, while similar weather conditions may continue into Sunday.
The weather disturbance is associated with a depression over northeastern Madhya Pradesh and adjoining northern Chhattisgarh, which is expected to move towards southeastern Uttar Pradesh and gradually weaken. Meanwhile, West Uttar Pradesh remains under a more significant rainfall warning, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in several areas on Saturday and isolated heavy rainfall likely on Sunday.
Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds could accompany the rainfall in some locations, potentially affecting road travel, visibility and daily activities. With the weather system extending across parts of north and central India, residents in Delhi-NCR and adjoining areas are advised to stay updated with official weather alerts and exercise caution during thunderstorms, lightning and periods of strong winds.
