Major Legal Win for the INDIA Alliance, Which Has Been Protesting in the National Capital for the Past Week

New Delhi : The Supreme Court granted significant relief to the INDIA Alliance on Thursday. The court issued a notice to the Election Commission of India (ECI) in response to a petition filed by opposition leaders, including Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. The petition challenges the ongoing ‘Special Intensive Revision’ (SIR) of electoral rolls in India, specifically regarding the deletion of voters’ names.

In addition to Gandhi, the petitioners include Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, CPI leader D. Raja, and several other prominent opposition figures.

A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymala heard the petition filed by the opposition leaders. The bench has sought a response from the Chief Election Commissioner and the Election Commission of India. The court stated, “We are issuing a notice and tagging this matter with other cases already pending before the court. Let someone on behalf of the Election Commission of India accept this notice; otherwise, it should be served to them.”
