New Delhi : Politics has intensified following a statement made by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in Bihar regarding PM Modi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah hit back, stating that under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, the Congress party is crossing the boundaries of decency every single day. Citing previous such attacks by the Congress against PM Modi, he remarked that the main opposition party is left with no substantive issues and is now resorting solely to a politics of abuse.

Responding to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s statement, Union Home Minister Amit Shah took to social media to express his reaction. He wrote, “Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has shattered all limits of decency today in Patna by making an indecent remark about Modi ji’s father. This is not the first time the Congress party has used abusive language against Modi ji or his family. At times, they have used derogatory language regarding his revered mother; at other times, they have called him a ‘merchant of death’ (maut ka saudagar), or mocked his humble background by calling him a ‘chaiwala’ (tea seller). Under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, the Congress party is crossing the boundaries of decency every single day.” It is worth noting that during the 2007 elections, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi referred to Prime Minister Modi as a “merchant of death”—a remark made in the context of the 2002 Gujarat riots. Separately, Mani Shankar Aiyar had also mocked PM Modi by calling him a “chaiwala.”

Continuing his retort, the Union Home Minister stated that the Congress party no longer has any political issues left to raise, having lost its base among the people. He stated, “The Congress party has become so mired in frustration and despair due to consecutive electoral defeats over the last 12 years that it is now left with neither any policy nor any substantive issue—only the politics of abuse remains. Having already lost its base among the public, the Congress is now losing its footing even among its own party workers.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized that whenever the Congress party has made such vile remarks against PM Modi, the public has delivered a fitting, resounding response. The Home Minister was referring to instances such as the 2007 Gujarat Assembly elections, the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, and other polls, during which PM Modi was labeled a “merchant of death” (maut ka saudagar) and a “tea seller” (chaiwala). In each case, he went on to secure victory by a significant margin. That said, the cycle of political attacks and counter-attacks has persisted from both sides.

On Sunday, while addressing an event in Bihar, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge launched an attack on PM Modi, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Amidst his remarks, an individual in the audience began causing a commotion. At one point, the man asserted that PM Modi “isn’t going anywhere.” Losing his composure, Kharge retorted, “Even Modi’s father will have to go… yes, even Modi’s father will have to go.” Following this, Congress workers present in the hall began creating an uproar; they shoved and assaulted the individual, eventually forcing him out of the venue. During the incident, Kharge also urged the party workers to remain calm.
