New Delhi : Ahead of the Congress party’s mega-rally scheduled for November 1 at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, an incident involving a dispute between two party MPs on a bus has come to light. It is alleged that Ramtek MP Shyamkumar Barve slapped Chandrapur MP Pratibha Dhanorkar. A video of the incident, lasting approximately one second, has also surfaced. The top leadership of the Congress party has been informed about the matter. The incident occurred while the Members of Parliament were traveling by bus to attend the grand rally organized by the Congress party at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on November 1.
A video of the incident involving Shyamkumar Barve and Pratibha Dhanorkar on the bus has since gone viral. In the video, Shyamkumar Barve is seen lightly slapping Pratibha Dhanorkar, who is seated next to him. Initially, Pratibha Dhanorkar does not react, but a short while later, she is seen expressing her displeasure. In this regard, some Congress office-bearers have lodged a complaint by sending emails to party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, K.C. Venugopal, and the party’s in-charge for Maharashtra, Sirivella Prasad. A viral video has also been submitted along with this complaint.
The office-bearers have alleged that such behavior damages the party’s image and affects the dignity of female leaders. They have demanded that action be taken to maintain organizational discipline. Meanwhile, an attempt was made to seek MP Pratibha Dhanorkar’s views on the incident, but she declined to speak on camera. However, she did mention that the incident occurred amidst some lighthearted banter among the MPs. It remains to be seen what steps the top leadership of the Congress party will take in response to this complaint.
