Sangrur : The Congress is holding its ‘Insaaf Rally’ in Punjab’s Sangrur district today, with Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi scheduled to address the gathering as the party formally launches its campaign for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
Senior Congress leaders, including AICC General Secretary Sachin Pilot, Punjab Congress president Pargat Singh and former minister Vijay Inder Singla, are overseeing preparations for the rally at Phaguwal village. Party leaders have been mobilising workers and supporters from different parts of the state to ensure a large turnout.
Rahul Gandhi is expected to target the Aam Aadmi Party led Punjab Government over issues of governance, law and order, unemployment and the growing drug menace. According to party sources, he is also likely to meet families of victims who allegedly lost their lives due to drug addiction.
The rally assumes political significance as the Congress seeks to regain power in Punjab after its defeat in the 2022 Assembly elections. The party is expected to use the event to project organisational unity, strengthen its grassroots network and set the tone for the upcoming electoral contest.
The gathering will also be an important political test for newly appointed Punjab Congress president Pargat Singh, who is leading the state unit following recent organisational changes.
Former minister Vijay Inder Singla said Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to address the gathering at 10 am. He said the Congress would highlight issues affecting ordinary people, particularly drug addiction, unemployment, public safety and governance.
The Congress is expecting participation from across Punjab, with the rally being seen as a major show of strength as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
