New Delhi : A devastating fire ripped through a packed live music pub in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district just before midnight on Monday, killing at least 27 people and leaving 63 others injured, many of them fighting for their lives.
According to Thai authorities, firefighters battled the massive blaze for several hours before bringing it under control. By then, the fire had engulfed large sections of the venue, trapping scores of patrons inside as thick smoke rapidly filled the building.
Rescue teams made a heartbreaking discovery while searching the charred premises. Several victims were found huddled near the restrooms at the rear of the pub, suggesting they had sought refuge from the smoke but were unable to find a safe escape route.
Preliminary findings indicate the fire may have started after smoke was seen emerging from an electrical circuit breaker near the stage. Moments later, the venue reportedly suffered a power outage followed by a loud explosion, triggering panic among those inside.
