Newborn in Danger, Boat Capsizes ! BSF Saves 10 Bangladeshis from Padma River
Chapainawabganj : In a dramatic rescue operation that highlighted the power of humanity beyond borders, Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel rescued 10 Bangladeshi passengers, including a newborn baby, after a boat carrying 11 people capsized in the Padma River near the Alim Nagar ghat area of Bangladesh’s Chapainawabganj district.
The incident took place on Saturday evening when the boat was reportedly travelling towards Narayanpur Union and overturned in the middle of the river amid strong waves and a powerful current. Following the accident, the passengers were swept away by the fast-moving water, with 10 of them eventually reaching the Indian side of the river. BSF personnel deployed in the area noticed the passengers struggling in the water and immediately sprang into action, launching a rescue operation to prevent them from being swept further away.
After a challenging effort, the BSF personnel managed to bring all 10 people safely out of the water, including a newborn whose presence made the rescue even more critical. One passenger who was reportedly on the boat remains missing, and a search operation is underway to locate him. The rescued passengers were subsequently identified as Bangladeshi nationals, following which the BSF informed the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) about the incident and the successful rescue.
According to Bangladesh officials, discussions are being held between the two sides regarding the safe return of the rescued passengers to Bangladesh. The incident unfolded as the Padma River witnessed strong currents and rough conditions, making the rescue operation particularly challenging.
The timely intervention by BSF personnel not only saved 10 lives but also demonstrated how compassion and humanitarian action can transcend international boundaries during moments of crisis. The rescue of a newborn from the dangerous river waters has further brought attention to the courage and quick response of the personnel who acted when every second mattered.
