Srinagar, J & K: The terrorist neutralized during a joint counter terrorism operation in the Budgam district has been identified as Yasir, a member of the proscribed Pakistan-backed outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) police confirmed on Saturday.

The identification comes a day after security forces engaged a group of terrorists in the Ashdar Gali area following specific intelligence inputs regarding their presence in the area. The operation, which concluded with the elimination of the single identified terrorist, also resulted in the recovery of a significant cache of weapons, including an AK-series rifle and other warlike stores from the encounter site.

The operation was a meticulously coordinated effort involving the Indian Army, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Acting on actionable intelligence, the security forces established a cordon around the suspected location in Ashdar Gali. As the search party moved in, suspected movement triggered an exchange of fire, leading to a brief but intense gunfight.

Following the neutralization of the terrorist, security forces maintained a tight cordon and launched extensive search operations in the surrounding forested areas as a precautionary measure.

The search is aimed at flushing out any potential accomplices or ensuring that no other terrorists are hidden in the dense, forested terrain. As of the latest reports, the operation remains underway, with security forces thoroughly combing the area to ensure the area is completely sanitized.

The latest operation underscores the continued resolve of the security establishment to prevent the movement and consolidation of terrorist groups, particularly in the forested regions of central Kashmir. By targeting these hideouts, security agencies aim to disrupt the logistical networks and operational capabilities of outfits like the LeT, who often use the challenging topography to plan and launch attacks.

A police spokesperson confirmed the identity of the slain terrorist, stating, “The neutralized terrorist has been identified as Yasir, affiliated with the Lashkar-e-Taiba. An AK-series rifle and other incriminating materials have been recovered. The security forces acted on precise intelligence, and the area is being sanitized.”

This development is part of the ongoing efforts to maintain peace and stability in the Kashmir Valley, with security forces remaining vigilant to thwart any nefarious designs aimed at disrupting the peace.
