New Delhi : IndiGo has extended the suspension of its flights to and from Saudi Arabia amid the prevailing security situation in the region the Indian Embassy in Riyadh said on Friday.
In a post on X the Indigo said flights connecting Riyadh would remain cancelled until October 31, inclusive, while services to and from Jeddah, Dammam and Madinah would remain suspended until October 27.
The latest extension follows a series of drone and missile attacks targeting critical infrastructure in Saudi Arabia.
An attack at King Fahd International Airport in Dammam on Wednesday reportedly killed an Indian national and injured two others. Another Indian national sustained injuries in a separate attack at Saudi Aramco’s Shaybah oilfield.
Other Indian carriers have also announced flight suspensions. Air India and Air India Express have suspended services on all routes to Saudi Arabia until October 24, while Akasa Air has extended its suspension until October 27.
The disruptions have also affected Indian Umrah pilgrims. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the Indian Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate General in Jeddah were coordinating with airlines and tour operators to facilitate the early return of affected pilgrims.
The Indian missions are providing welfare assistance, operating round-the-clock control rooms and issuing regular advisories to help Indian nationals amid the deteriorating security situation. Citizens requiring urgent departure have been advised to consider alternative transit routes through Bahrain, Kuwait or Qatar, subject to the necessary visa requirements.
The embassy has urged Indians in Saudi Arabia to remain vigilant, follow the instructions of local authorities and move to a safe location inside a building in the event of an aerial attack. It has also cautioned against filming or circulating images and videos of interceptions or impact sites, warning of possible legal consequences under Saudi law.
Saudi Arabia is home to approximately 2.74 million Indian nationals, making the evolving situation a significant concern for the Indian community.
