Anantnag, J & K : Continuing its sustained crackdown against the drug menace, Anantnag Police has arrested seven alleged drug peddlers in separate cases and recovered 3.173 kg of narcotic substances, while a notorious repeat offender has been detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act.

In the first case, a police team from Police Station Srigufwara apprehended three persons at Hatigam Crossing while they were travelling on a scooty. They were identified as Jahangir Ayoub Fashoo of Zirpara, Bijbehara, Amanul Azam Dar and Sahib Amin Dar, both residents of Dogripora, Awantipora. Police said 1.378 kg of ganja and 12 grams of charas were recovered from their possession. FIR No. 85/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at PS Srigufwara.

In another action, PS Srigufwara apprehended Basit Rashid Bhat of Hugam and Mujeeb Mudasir Bhat of Khiram Durpora at Nowshara Crossing. 1.740 kg of ganja was recovered from their possession, following which FIR No. 86/2026 under Sections 8/20 NDPS Act was registered.

Meanwhile, Police Post Sherbagh apprehended Mohd Rafiq Mochi of Furrah, Mirbazaar, at Sarnal Chicken Mohalla on High Ground Road. Police said 20 grams of charas was recovered from his possession. FIR No. 317/2026 under Sections 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at PS Anantnag.

In another incident, Police Post Sangam apprehended Muna, a resident of Kehri Lakempora, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, in the Sangam area while he was allegedly attempting to flee. 23 grams of charas was recovered from his possession. FIR No. 268/2026 under Sections 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at PS Bijbehara.

Separately, Anantnag Police has booked Mushtaq Ahmad Wani, son of Gh Nabi Wani and resident of Panzgam Kokernag, under the PIT-NDPS Act. Police described him as a repeat offender allegedly involved in illicit trafficking of narcotic substances.

In view of his alleged continued involvement in drug-related activities, the competent authority ordered his detention under the PIT-NDPS Act. Following the detention order, Wani has been lodged in Central Jail Kotbhalwal, Jammu, as per law.

Anantnag Police said it remains committed to taking stringent legal action against drug traffickers and repeat offenders and strengthening its ongoing campaign against the drug menace in the district.
