Leh : Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has approved the withdrawal of criminal cases against 20 individuals booked in connection with the violence that erupted in Leh on September 24 last year.
The decision was taken in the larger interest of peace, public tranquillity and social harmony in Ladakh, the Lieutenant Governor said in a post on X.
According to the LG, the decision followed a comprehensive review by the Ladakh Police, which recommended a closure report in respect of the 20 individuals in FIR No. 144/2005, registered at Police Station Leh under Section 360 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Saxena said the move would enable the 20 individuals to move forward with their lives and careers, while prioritising justice and healing over prolonged litigation to promote a more peaceful, united and harmonious society in Ladakh.
The Lieutenant Governor also expressed gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his “constant guidance and sympathetic approach” concerning the victims and their families.
The September 24, 2025 violence in Leh had resulted in four deaths and scores of injuries. The Union Home Ministry subsequently ordered a judicial inquiry, headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice B.S. Chauhan into the circumstances leading to the incident, the police action and the resultant deaths.
