Credits PM Modi, Amit Shah and local leadership for their role in the development

Ladakh : Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh has announced the creation of Sankoo District, describing the decision as the fulfilment of a longstanding aspiration of the people of the area.

In a post on X, the LG Ladakh said the decision was in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, centred on the principle of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.

The Lieutenant Governor credited the constructive and positive approach of Anjuman-e-Sahib Zaman for contributing to the achievement.

He acknowledged the role of its Chief Patron, Syed Mohammad Razvi (Aga Migi Outh), Chairman Sheikh Sadiq Balaghi, Kargil Chief Executive Councillor Dr Jaffar Akhoon, Ladakh Member of Parliament Haneefa Jan and former Leh CEC Tashi Gyalson.

Congratulating everyone who worked towards the goal, the LG said the announcement marked the culmination of the long-pending aspiration of the people of Sankoo and recognised the collective efforts of community representatives and public leadership.

The announcement is expected to be welcomed by residents who have long sought district status for the area.

The creation of a new district can potentially bring administration closer to the people and improve access to public services, subject to the implementation of the necessary administrative arrangements.

The announcement marks a significant development for Sankoo and its residents, with further details regarding the district’s administrative structure and operationalisation awaited.
