Aligarh, UttarPradesh : Husband Alleges Wife’s Gender Identity Was Concealed Before WeddingA family dispute in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, has sparked widespread attention after a man alleged that he discovered only after marriage that his wife is transgender. The man has also accused his wife and her family of demanding ₹6 lakh in exchange for agreeing to separate.

Police have begun an investigation into the matter. The case was reported from Firdous Nagar under the Civil Lines Police Station limits, where Indresh Kumar approached the police seeking legal assistance.According to Indresh, he came to know about his wife’s gender identity only after their marriage.

He claimed that when he raised the issue with his in-laws, no solution was offered, and the relationship gradually deteriorated.The complainant further alleged that when he objected, his wife threatened to take her own life, leaving him under severe mental stress. He has requested police intervention, claiming he fears further harassment.

Second Marriage After Personal TragedyIndresh stated that this was his second marriage. His first wife reportedly passed away during the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving him to care for their three children. He said that due to the challenges of raising the children alone, he decided to remarry in 2024.

According to his complaint, the marriage was arranged by a relative in Faridabad, and he bore all the wedding expenses. He also claimed to have paid around ₹1.5 lakh to a marriage mediator.The husband alleged that he became suspicious after the marriage and repeatedly requested his wife to undergo a medical examination, but she allegedly refused.

He claimed that when she later fell ill and was taken to a doctor, he allegedly learnt that she was transgender. These claims have been made by the husband and have not been independently verified by authorities.

Indresh has further alleged that his in-laws later demanded ₹6 lakh to end the marriage and assured him they would stop pursuing the matter only after receiving the money.After receiving information about the dispute, officers from the Civil Lines Police Station reached the spot and counselled both parties.

Police officials said that the matter is under investigation and that further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry and available evidence. The allegations made by the husband are currently being investigated, and the version of the wife and her family has not yet been made public.

Authorities have urged both sides to cooperate with the investigation while the facts are being verified.
