MoD signs Rs 586 crore deal for tank power units

New Delhi : The Ministry of Defence today signed a Rs 586 crore contract with Accurate Industrial Controls Private Limited to procure Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) for the Army’s T-72 and T-90 tanks.

The contract was signed in New Delhi in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.

The APU is an alternate source of electric power for the tank’s fire control system, firing circuit, gun stabilisation system and other ancillaries.

The indigenously developed units are expected to improve the operational readiness, reliability and sustainability of the Army’s Mechanised Formations.

The procurement was made under the Make II category, which promotes industry led research and development.

The Ministry described it as a significant step towards indigenising critical sub-systems of armoured platforms, and as proof that the mechanism can turn indigenous innovation into production.

The Ministry said the contract is in line with the Viksit Bharat @2047 vision and marks a milestone towards Aatmanirbharta in defence and a self reliant, globally competitive Indian defence industry.
