Srinagar, J & K : Police across Kashmir continued intensified action against drug trafficking, theft and illegal mining, with multiple operations reported from Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian, Budgam and Ganderbal districts.

In Anantnag, Police Post Janglatmandi arrested a suspected drug peddler at Ashajipora and recovered 3 grams of charas and 357 grams of ganja from his possession. FIR No. 319/2026 has been registered at Police Station Anantnag and investigation is underway.

In Kulgam, Police Post Mir Bazar intercepted a scooty during a naka at Chidhama and recovered 21 grams of charas-like substance from its storage compartment. The rider, identified as Sahil Ahmad Wani of Devalgam, Kokernag, was apprehended and legal proceedings initiated.

In Shopian, police arrested two alleged drug peddlers during naka checking operations at Keller and Audoora. Police said 154 grams of charas powder-like substance was recovered from one accused, while 2.55 kilograms of crushed cannabis-like substance was recovered from another. Separate FIRs have been registered and investigations initiated to establish the source and linkages.

Meanwhile, Budgam Police solved a gold theft case registered at Police Station Charar-i-Sharief. A woman accused of stealing a gold bangle from a devotee at the Charar-i-Sharief Shrine was arrested following analysis of CCTV footage and other evidence. Police said the stolen gold bangle was subsequently recovered.

In Ganderbal, police seized 14 vehicles, including 11 tippers and three tractors, allegedly involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minor minerals. The matter was taken up with the Geology and Mining Department, which imposed fines under relevant provisions.

Police in the respective districts said investigations are ongoing and reiterated their commitment to curbing drug trafficking, theft and illegal mining, while urging the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
