New Delhi : The Monsoon Session of Parliament will be held from July 20 to August 13, 2026, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced. The session has been convened with the approval of President Droupadi Murmu, setting the stage for key legislative business and major political confrontations.
Ahead of the session, the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) is expected to adopt its report on the 130th Constitution Amendment Bill on July 17. According to sources, the panel is likely to retain the contentious provision that mandates the automatic removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and Union or State ministers from office if they remain in judicial custody for 30 consecutive days in serious criminal cases.
The proposed clause has sparked sharp debate, with critics warning it could be misused for political vendetta despite expected safeguards, while supporters say it would strengthen transparency and accountability in public office.
Meanwhile, the Opposition is also expected to intensify its attack on the government by seeking privilege proceedings against Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The Congress has accused him of misleading Parliament over statements related to Indian military casualties during Operation Sindoor.
With constitutional reforms, governance accountability, and defence issues all on the agenda, the upcoming Monsoon Session is expected to be one of the most politically charged sessions in recent years.
