Indore : A heated war of words has erupted between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress following the mimicry of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on stage during Congress leader and Raebareli MP Rahul Gandhi’s youth interaction event, ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ (Students’ Echo), in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

The BJP launched a scathing attack on Rahul Gandhi after a video went viral showing stand-up comedian Pulkit Mani mimicking PM Modi’s mannerisms, his speeches abroad, and an interaction he had with an elderly woman during a recent rally.

At the event, which focused on issues concerning students and the youth, stand-up comedian Pulkit Mani mimicked PM Modi’s voice and speaking style.

Referring to the Prime Minister’s meetings with foreign leaders, the comedian repeatedly said, “My friend, how are you?” Rahul Gandhi, present on stage, laughed and replied, “I am fine, how are you, Modi ji?”

During the act, satirical remarks were made regarding the recent incident where PM Modi arranged a chair for an elderly woman at a public meeting, as well as his ‘coin trick’.

The mimicry also included jibes at the ‘Galgotias controversy’ surrounding the AI ​​Summit and India’s foreign policy.

In a post on its X account, the BJP wrote, “On one hand, PM Modi showed respect and affection to an elderly mother; on the other, Rahul Gandhi mocked her at his event. This is the difference between sanskar (values) and the politics of posturing. At an age when one deserves respect, what does this shameful attitude of Rahul Gandhi reveal about his mindset?” Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi said, “Shameful and disgusting! Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party have hit the lowest depths of moral bankruptcy. Mocking Prime Minister Modi’s late mother an elderly woman demonstrates a complete lack of human sensitivity.”

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami wrote on X, “A mother is not a subject for politics. Insulting a mother is absolutely unacceptable in any civilized society. Political opposition is understandable, but laughing at derogatory remarks made about the Prime Minister’s late mother exposes your political culture.”

A fresh debate has erupted in political circles and on social media following this incident. While Congress supporters are framing it as pure ‘political satire’ and an exercise of freedom of expression, the BJP is condemning it as a transgression of the boundaries regarding the dignity of the Prime Minister’s office, sensitivity towards the elderly, and respect for the deceased.
