Exercise tests rescue operations, passenger evacuation and coordination among security, medical and disaster response teams
Pulwama, J & K : A multi agency mock drill was conducted at Kakapora Railway Station in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district to assess emergency preparedness and strengthen coordination among security forces, civil administration and disaster response agencies.
The exercise witnessed the participation of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Fire and Emergency Services, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Primary Health Centre Kakapora and Special Operations Group (SOG) Kakapora, among other departments.
The drill was supervised by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Operations Kakapora, along with senior officers of the Government Railway Police (GRP). Participating teams demonstrated their response to a simulated emergency, focusing on securing the affected area, evacuating passengers to safer locations, conducting rescue operations and providing first aid and medical assistance.
The exercise also tested inter agency communication, coordination and decision-making under emergency conditions. It provided an opportunity for the participating teams to assess their operational readiness and identify areas requiring improvement in responding to unforeseen incidents.
Railway stations are important public transport hubs that require effective emergency response mechanisms to ensure passenger safety. Such exercises help security personnel, firefighters, healthcare providers and disaster management teams familiarise themselves with their respective responsibilities and improve coordination during critical situations.
The mock drill underscored the importance of regular preparedness exercises in strengthening emergency response capabilities, minimising risks to passengers and ensuring a swift and coordinated response to potential security threats and other emergencies.
