New Delhi : The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has notified the retail prices of 39 new drug formulations under the Drugs (Prices Control) Order (DPCO), 2013, in a move aimed at ensuring affordable access to essential medicines across the country.
The notification, issued on July 8, covers a diverse range of medicines used to treat conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, HIV, cardiovascular diseases, and eye infections. The authority clarified that the notification is a retail price fixation order for new formulations and does not constitute a price reduction of existing medicines.
Among the key formulations, the retail price of Amlodipine + Bisoprolol + Telmisartan Tablets, prescribed for the management of high blood pressure, has been fixed at ₹14.74 per tablet.The price of Clopidogrel + Aspirin + Atorvastatin Capsules, commonly used to lower the risk of heart attacks and strokes, has been notified at ₹6.37 per capsule.Meanwhile, Nepafenac + Moxifloxacin Ophthalmic Solution, an eye drop used after eye surgeries and for treating bacterial eye infections, has been fixed at ₹68.64 per ml.
The NPPA has also reminded retailers and dealers that they are legally required to display the latest price lists supplied by manufacturers at a prominent location within their establishments, ensuring transparency and easy access for consumers.
The authority further warned that any manufacturer or marketing company found charging above the notified retail prices will be required to refund the overcharged amount along with applicable interest, in accordance with the provisions of the DPCO, 2013 and the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.
The latest notification reinforces the government’s ongoing efforts to regulate medicine prices while improving affordability and protecting consumers from overpricing.
