Bihar : A deeply disturbing incident has shocked Patna, Bihar, after a 60-year-old woman was allegedly burned to death inside her home, with police accusing her son of being responsible for the horrific incident. The deceased woman was identified as Manju Devi, who lived in the Diwan Mohalla area under Khajekalan police station with her son, Chintu Kumar, an auto-rickshaw driver.

According to police and reports, Chintu allegedly returned home late on Saturday night in an intoxicated condition, following which an argument reportedly broke out between him and his mother over an unspecified issue.

The situation allegedly escalated, and police suspect that Chintu set his mother on fire inside the house. Neighbours reportedly became aware of the incident and alerted the authorities, following which police rushed to the spot. By the time officers arrived, however, the woman had succumbed to her injuries.

Her body was subsequently sent to NMCH-Patna for a post-mortem examination, while investigators began examining the circumstances surrounding the death and collecting evidence from the scene. Police also reportedly faced resistance while taking the accused into custody, with officials alleging that Chintu attacked them during the arrest. What has added another disturbing dimension to the case is the accused’s alleged behaviour after his arrest.

According to reports citing police, Chintu reportedly claimed that “I am God” while speaking about the incident. Authorities are now investigating whether intoxication, the reported argument or any other underlying factor played a role in the alleged crime.

The exact sequence of events, the motive and the circumstances that led to Manju Devi’s death are yet to be fully established, and the allegations against Chintu will be subject to the ongoing police investigation and legal proceedings. The incident has once again raised serious concerns about violence within families and the devastating consequences of substance abuse and uncontrolled conflict, as investigators work to establish what exactly happened inside the house that night.
