New Delhi : During the BRICS summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed the concept of a ‘Greater BRICS.’ Taking a veiled dig at the US and Western nations, Xi stated that the principle of “might is right” is no longer valid in international affairs and that all nations must enjoy sovereign equality.

Addressing the BRICS nations, Xi condemned the ideology that equates power with correctness. He emphasized that regardless of a country’s size, power, or economic standing, all nations should be accorded equal status within the global community.

Additionally, Xi announced five major global initiatives—including an AI open-source community, a digital ecosystem, and an engineer training alliance—aimed at uniting the Global South and strengthening BRICS cooperation.

Xi said, “With its collective rise, the Global South has become a key driver of global multipolarity. At the same time, the international landscape is unstable and fraught with risks and challenges. To bring stability to the world and make it a better place, BRICS nations must embrace this historic initiative, unite the Global South, act as an active, stabilizing, and positive force in international affairs, and advance the well-being of all humanity.”

Xi emphasized, “The principle of ‘might is right’ does not apply here and should have been abandoned long ago.” “Global South nations should jointly uphold the rule of law in international affairs and safeguard fundamental norms of international relations—including sovereign equality, non-interference in internal affairs, and the peaceful resolution of disputes—while ensuring that international law and rules apply to all without double standards.”

Xi Jinping announced five key initiatives to foster technological and industrial cooperation among BRICS nations. Under these, China will spearhead the establishment of a ‘BRICS AI Open-Source Community’ and support the development of Large Language Models (LLMs), AI training, and the creation of an open ecosystem.

Additionally, proposals were made to establish a ‘BRICS Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Partnership’ to facilitate trade and industrial coordination, and a ‘BRICS Digital Ecosystem Cloud Platform’ for digital skills development.

Furthermore, China will assist in building smart factories to modernize manufacturing across BRICS nations and form a ‘BRICS Engineer Training Alliance’ to facilitate joint development and secure global recognition for engineers’ qualifications.
