A sightseeing flight carrying tourists crashed near Peru’s world-famous Nazca Lines on Saturday, leaving all 13 people on board dead, authorities confirmed.
The aircraft, which was operating a scenic tour over the UNESCO World Heritage Site, went down in the Nazca region shortly after takeoff. Rescue teams rushed to the crash site and confirmed there were no survivors.
Officials said the victims included 11 passengers and two pilots. The identities and nationalities of those on board have not yet been officially disclosed.
The Nazca Lines, a vast collection of ancient geoglyphs etched into Peru’s desert landscape, are among the country’s most popular tourist attractions and are frequently viewed through aerial sightseeing tours.
Aviation authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Further details are expected as the probe progresses.
