Udhampur, J & K : The two terrorists neutralised during Operation Sohan in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district have been identified as Pakistani nationals associated with the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Thursday.
The slain militants have been identified as Saddam and Mustafa, according to police. The identification comes as security forces continue search and surveillance operations in the area following the joint counter terror operation.
A significant cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the slain militants, including an AK assault rifle with four magazines, an M4 carbine with three magazines, a Glock pistol with two magazines and four grenades, police said.
Operation Sohan was launched following intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the Brattal-Sohan and Khubban areas of Majalta in Udhampur.
The operation involved the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
The security forces conducted the operation despite difficult terrain, poor visibility and adverse weather conditions.
The Army said the operation remained underway, with search and surveillance activities continuing to track any remaining threat.
The latest recovery of multiple sophisticated weapons is expected to form part of the ongoing investigation into the militants’ movements, their possible network and the source of the weapons.
Security forces have maintained heightened vigilance in the Udhampur region as searches continue to sanitise the area.
