Srinagar, J & K : Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Sunil Sharma on Monday accused the Omar Abdullah led government of failing to fulfil its promises and provide basic amenities to the people during its two year tenure.

Speaking during the ongoing Autumn Session of the J&K Assembly, Sharma criticised the government over what he described as shortcomings in basic public services and governance.

He alleged that several commitments made by the government at the time of elections had not been fulfilled, while issues concerning electricity, employment and other essential services continued to affect people across Jammu and Kashmir.

The LOP also raised concerns over the grievances of various sections of employees and workers including NHM employees, and questioned the government’s handling of their demands.

Sharma’s remarks came amid protests by Opposition members in the Assembly over issues including NHM job regularisation, alleged outsourcing of government jobs and the hike in power tariffs.

The Assembly witnessed noisy scenes during the opening day of the Autumn Session, with Opposition members raising slogans and demanding action on issues concerning employment and basic amenities.

The Speaker repeatedly appealed to members to maintain order and allow the proceedings to continue. The protests however disrupted the proceedings, following which the House was adjourned for the day.
