New Delhi : External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar called for stronger multilateral cooperation and reforms in the global system while co-chairing the Partners for Multilateralism, International Law, Peace & Prosperity (P4M) Summit with European Council President António Costa.

Jaishankar stressed the essential role of multilateralism in preserving the spirit of international cooperation amid extreme competition, geopolitical tensions and ongoing conflicts.

The External Affairs Minister highlighted the need to address specific dimensions of ongoing conflicts and establish appropriate frameworks and guardrails for emerging capabilities. He also underlined the importance of de risking and diversification to counter dominance and disruption in critical areas.

Jaishankar further emphasised the significance of international law, rules and norms in addressing global challenges and maintaining a rules-based international order.

Making a case for “Reformed Multilateralism,” Jaishankar said participative deliberations and transparent decision-making could strengthen advocacy for multilateralism and provide hope and optimism to the United Nations system.

He said such efforts would also reinforce the collective resolve of countries to work together towards peace and prosperity.

The P4M Summit was held on the sidelines of the UN High Level Week, bringing together discussions on strengthening multilateral cooperation and addressing emerging global challenges.
