Amritsar, J & K : The Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled six illegal arms supply networks arresting eight accused and recovering 13 illegal pistols and 23 live cartridges officials said.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were allegedly in contact with foreign based smugglers and were procuring illegal weapons for further distribution and use in criminal activities, police said.

Investigators have also established links between the arrested accused and other associates allegedly involved in the illegal arms supply network. Police are probing the wider network to identify additional persons involved in the trafficking and circulation of weapons.

Separate FIRs have been registered at Chheharta, Gate Hakima, Sultanwind and D-Division police stations in Amritsar according to police.

Further investigation is underway to establish the complete backward and forward linkages of the network and identify other members involved in the illegal arms trade.

The Punjab Police said it remains committed to maintaining strict vigil against illegal arms trafficking and organised criminal networks and taking firm action against those involved in the illegal supply and circulation of weapons.
