Srinagar, J & K : Jammu and Kashmir Leader of Opposition and senior BJP leader Sunil Sharma on Monday criticised the INDIA alliance over its protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, accusing the opposition bloc of resorting to street demonstrations instead of reaching out to the people.
Sharma alleged that the alliance had lost touch with the public and was attempting to create political controversy through protests.
Referring to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s earlier remarks on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), Sharma questioned the National Conference leader’s current position on allegations of “vote chori”.
In December 2024, Abdullah had criticised the Congress over its objections to EVMs, saying that political parties should not question the machines only when they lose elections. He had also argued that the same machines were used regardless of the election outcome.
Sharma said that if there were concerns about electoral irregularities, those raising them should also be prepared to take political responsibility. He called on Abdullah to resign before making such allegations.
The BJP leader’s remarks come amid an ongoing political confrontation between the ruling and opposition parties over allegations concerning the electoral process.
