Haryana : She Never Gave Up on Her Dreams. Proving that it’s never too late to learn, 63-year-old Sushila Devi from Bhadangi village in Haryana’s Rewari district has passed the Class 10 examination with an impressive 79.6%, inspiring people across the country with her determination and perseverance.
Sushila had to discontinue her education after Class 5 due to financial hardship. Marriage, raising three children, and family responsibilities kept her away from school for decades. Yet, her passion for learning never faded. She stayed connected with current affairs through newspapers and television, nurturing the dream of completing her education one day.
Recognising her lifelong desire to study, her son Vishnu enrolled her in the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). Despite finding subjects like Mathematics, Science, and English challenging at first, Sushila remained determined. With the support of her husband, son, and even her grandchildren, she studied for three to four hours every day while managing household responsibilities.
Her hard work paid off when the NIOS announced the results in April. She secured 89 marks in English, 88 in Science, 78 in Mathematics, 76 in Painting, and 67 in Hindi, achieving an overall score of 79.6%.
Sushila’s achievement has become a matter of pride for her family and the entire village. But for her, this is only the beginning. She now plans to continue her education and fulfil another dream—contesting the upcoming Gram Panchayat elections to become the village Sarpanch.
Beyond her personal success, Sushila is encouraging other adults in her village to return to education, proving that determination and the willingness to learn can overcome any barrier, regardless of age.
