India Takes Centre Stage at BRICS: A New Industrial Partnership Takes Shape

New Delhi : India has achieved a significant diplomatic milestone on the international stage as BRICS member countries adopted a joint declaration on strengthening industrial cooperation, innovation-driven growth and sustainable development at the 10th BRICS Industry Ministers’ Meeting held in Jaipur under India’s chairmanship.

The meeting brought together industry ministers and senior representatives from BRICS nations, who discussed ways to expand industrial capacity, accelerate technological transformation and deepen cooperation among member countries.

Addressing the gathering, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal stressed that BRICS nations should transform their ambitions into practical innovation and meaningful collaboration, while leveraging each other’s complementary strengths to build stronger and more resilient industrial ecosystems.

He also highlighted the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution as an important platform for advancing cooperation in emerging technologies and industrial development. The meeting was held under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Collaboration and Sustainability,” reflecting the group’s focus on creating stronger and more sustainable industrial partnerships.

India assumed the BRICS chairmanship in January this year, with the annual BRICS Summit scheduled to be held in New Delhi in September. Against the backdrop of global geopolitical tensions and growing economic uncertainties, the adoption of the joint declaration by member countries is being viewed as an important diplomatic achievement for India, demonstrating its ability to bring diverse major economies together around common areas of cooperation.

BRICS includes major founding members such as India, Brazil, Russia, China and South Africa, along with its expanded membership. Collectively, the grouping represents a major share of the global population and economy, giving its decisions considerable weight in discussions on global trade, industry, technology and development.

The Jaipur meeting therefore marked more than just an industrial dialogue it underscored India’s growing role in shaping multilateral economic cooperation and the future of emerging industrial powers.The agreement also highlights India’s effort to place innovation, technological advancement, industrial resilience and sustainability at the heart of BRICS cooperation.

With the group representing a substantial portion of the world’s population, economic output and energy production, stronger coordination among its members could have a significant impact on the global economic landscape.
