New FIR Registered Under POCSO and SC/ST Acts
New Delhi : The Delhi Police has intensified action regarding the assault on activist Nishu Azad’s father during a CJP protest at Jantar Mantar. Since the victim is a minor, the police have registered a new FIR under the POCSO Act.
Additionally, sections of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) Act have been added to the previously registered case. According to the Delhi Police, Swatantra Bhardwaj—the accused named in the case—has not yet been arrested.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media in Bulandshahr, the accused, Swatantra Bhardwaj, denied the allegations against him and presented his side of the story. Clarifying a statement made in a podcast regarding the incident, he asserted that the alleged assault was actually an act of self-defense.
Bhardwaj claimed that a mob of 10 to 15 people had surrounded him at Jantar Mantar, and had he not defended himself, the aggressive crowd could have taken his life. He stated that the victim sustained a minor head injury during this scuffle and the act of self-defense.
Citing the police medical report, he noted that the victim did not suffer any serious injuries and affirmed that he is fully cooperating with the investigation. Furthermore, he dismissed the podcast clip circulating on social media as fake.
