New Delhi : National Security Advisor Ajit Doval will arrive in Beijing today. There, he will participate in the India-China Special Representative-level talks on the border dispute alongside his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi. The two will hold the 25th round of Special Representative talks on Tuesday.

These talks are significant as they precede Chinese President Xi Jinping’s highly anticipated visit to India for the BRICS summit scheduled to be held in New Delhi on September 12–13.

Both Doval and Wang are the designated Special Representatives for the border negotiation process. This process was initiated in 2003 to fully resolve the complex, 3,488-kilometer-long border dispute between India and China.

While the process has not succeeded in resolving the border dispute, officials from both sides consider this structured mechanism a useful tool for addressing the recurring tensions that arise between the two nations on various fronts.

Although there is no official confirmation yet regarding the Chinese President’s visit, officials from both sides remain optimistic about the Chinese leader’s participation. This could pave the way for a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the summit, allowing for discussions on initiatives to advance bilateral relations.
