₹1 lakh crore will be spent ; Modi-Putin likely to sign deal before BRICS summit
New Delhi : India and Russia may reach an agreement to buy 75 Sukhoi-57 fighter jets. Talks have progressed between the two countries on the terms of this deal. If the deal is done, its cost could go up to about Rs 1 lakh crore. It will include weapons, parts, training, simulators and maintenance along with the aircraft. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet in Delhi on Friday before the BRICS summit. Both the leaders can sign on the Sukhoi-57 fighter jet in this meeting.
India wants to get technology from this deal that will be useful in making fighter jets in the future. Russia has already proposed to make Sukhoi-57 in India. India wants its companies to participate in this project and access to the necessary technology. Apart from this, issues related to defense, nuclear energy and cooperation between the two countries will be discussed.
According to Indian Air Force experts, the entry of Sukhoi-57 can change the method of air combat. Its real strength will be in how well it can be connected with Rafale, Sukhoi-30 MKI, AWACS, ground radar and air defense system. It is most difficult to reach the enemy’s radar, command center and missile positions at the beginning of the war. Sukhoi-57 is detected late on radar, so it can be easy to reach these places.
Instead of attacking each target itself, this aircraft can relay information from enemy radars, air defenses, and fighter jets to Indian aircraft behind it, thereby increasing the lethality of other fighter aircraft like Rafale and Sukhoi-30.
