Kulgam, J & K : Security forces and police on Wednesday launched a joint cordon and search operation (CASO) in the Bugam Orchard area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district based on specific human intelligence inputs.
The operation was conducted jointly by 9 Rashtriya Rifles, Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) Kulgam and 18 Battalion CRPF and commenced at around 12:15 pm.
During the search operation, security forces apprehended five individuals from the area. The apprehended persons have been identified as Furkhan Ahmad Wani (22), a labourer and resident of Bugam; Sohaib Ahmad Pala (20), a farmer from Bugam; Salman Abbas Lone (20), a shopkeeper from Bugam; Nidash Ahmad Reshi (22), a student from Nanibugh; and Faizal Akbar (30), a resident of Redeani Payeen.
According to the details available, the search operation also led to the recovery of four 9 mm pistols, four pistol magazines, 22 rounds of 9 mm ammunition and two hand grenades.
The recovery of the weapons and ammunition has prompted further investigation to ascertain their intended use and possible links. Authorities are expected to conduct further questioning and verification of the apprehended individuals as part of the ongoing investigation.
