Srinagar,J & K : The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was adjourned for the day on Monday amid noisy protests by Opposition members over several issues, including the regularisation of NHM employees, alleged outsourcing of government jobs and the hike in electricity tariffs.

The first day of the seven sitting Autumn Session began at 10 am with obituary references. Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather paid tribute to three former ministers Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Dharam Paul and Ghulam Hassan Khan who passed away during the inter-session period. The House also observed a two-minute silence in their memory.

The proceedings subsequently moved towards Question Hour, but the situation turned tense as Opposition members rose from their seats and raised slogans over various public and employment-related issues.

The protesting members demanded the regularisation of NHM employees and raised concerns over the alleged outsourcing of government jobs to people from outside Jammu and Kashmir.

They also highlighted the issue of increased electricity tariffs and the prevailing power situation in the Union Territory.

Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather repeatedly urged the protesting members to maintain order and allow Question Hour to continue. However, the protests persisted, disrupting the normal proceedings of the House.

Amid continued disruptions, the Speaker adjourned the Assembly for the day. The House will reconvene at 10 am on Tuesday, when the scheduled legislative business is expected to resume.

The opening day of the Autumn Session was consequently dominated by Opposition protests, with the regularisation of NHM employees, employment concerns and electricity-related issues taking centre stage.
