High Alert in Mumbai: Suspect Carrying Gun Found With Fake PMO Credentials

Mumbai : In a major security scare ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s programme in Mumbai, two people were reportedly detained at the event venue after security personnel raised suspicion over their credentials, with a firearm allegedly recovered from one of them and an identity card claiming affiliation with the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) found to be fake.

The incident reportedly occurred at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), where Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to attend a major programme.

According to the information provided, one of the detained individuals has been identified as 24-year-old Rohan Parekh, who allegedly presented himself as a PMO official and was found carrying a purported PMO identity card that reportedly failed verification during security checks.

The development triggered an immediate security alert, particularly because the suspect was also allegedly moving around with an armed person described as a security guard or bodyguard. A firearm was reportedly recovered during the security process, adding to the seriousness of the incident and prompting further questioning and investigation.

The Mumbai Crime Branch is reportedly looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident, including how the alleged fake credentials were obtained, why the suspect attempted to gain access to the high-security venue and whether he had any legitimate connection with the individuals or organisations associated with the Prime Minister’s programme.

The incident comes as security arrangements have been intensified in Mumbai ahead of Prime Minister Modi’s scheduled appearance at the seventh edition of the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026, one of the major international gatherings focused on financial technology and the future of digital finance. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the event at around 5:45 pm on Tuesday, according to the information provided.

Since its emergence as an international platform, the Global Fintech Fest has brought together policymakers, regulators, central banks, financial institutions, fintech companies, technology firms, investors, academics and other stakeholders to discuss emerging developments shaping the future of finance.
