New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday imposed a ₹10 lakh penalty on comedian Samay Raina, holding him accountable for failing to comply with its earlier directions and for making misleading statements during the course of the proceedings.
A bench of the apex court observed that Raina had shown a wilful disregard for judicial orders, stating that his conduct amounted to having “taken the court for a ride.” The judges strongly criticised the alleged violation, stressing that litigants are expected to deal with the court honestly and strictly follow its directions.
The court has directed Raina to deposit the ₹10 lakh fine within two weeks, warning that non-compliance with judicial orders cannot be taken lightly.
