Ocean Winner Tragedy : 2 Crew Rescued, 22 Still Missing
Jagatsinghpur, Odisha : Two crew members rescued from the Panama-flagged cargo vessel ‘Ocean Winner’, which sank in the Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast, have safely reached Paradip.
The two rescued crew members arrived aboard the Indian Coast Guard ship ‘Bharat’. Both are reportedly in stable condition and will undergo necessary verification by the Immigration Department before being handed over to the ship’s agent.
The ‘Ocean Winner’ had departed from Paradip Port and was sailing towards China when it went missing in the middle of the sea. The vessel reportedly sank around 240 nautical miles from the Odisha coast in the Bay of Bengal.
Following the incident, a large-scale search and rescue operation was launched to trace the vessel’s crew members.
The cargo ship was carrying a total of 24 crew members. In a joint operation involving the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard, two crew members were rescued alive. However, 22 crew members remain missing.
According to the information available, the crew included 20 Chinese nationals, three Myanmar nationals and one Bangladeshi national.
The search operation is continuing at sea, with multiple resources deployed to locate the missing crew members. Two Chinese vessels, two Indian Navy aircraft and an Indian Coast Guard ship are involved in the ongoing search and rescue mission.
An Odisha Marine Police team is also carrying out patrol operations using a patrol boat to assist in the search for the missing vessel and crew.
The arrival of the two rescued crew members at Paradip has brought some relief, but the focus remains on the 22 missing sailors.
Authorities and rescue teams continue to search the waters, hoping to trace the missing crew members and bring them back safely.
