New Delhi : China’s President Xi Jinping is set to travel to India for the BRICS summit, according to reports from state media
The trip is anticipated to be a major diplomatic moment carrying weight both for efforts to steady relations between the two Asian giants and for BRICS wide cooperation at a time of global instability especially given the conflict in West Asia and the war between Russia and Ukraine.
The Xinhua news agency China’s official news outlet, confirmed that President Xi would travel to India for the summit.
New Delhi will host the 18th BRICS Summit on September 12–13, with India currently serving as chair of the bloc.This marks Xi’s first trip to India in almost seven years.
His last visit came in 2019, when he attended an informal summit with Prime Minister Modi in Mamallapuram, near Chennai.
Before that he traveled to Goa in 2016 for the BRICS summit, and his very first visit to India took place in September 2014, when he and Modi held wide ranging discussions a meeting that occurred early in both leaders’ respective terms.
